The pride and joy of the 50 chickens here is organic, free-range happy chicken eggs!

This summer, I committed to supplying the local Community Supported Agriculture group, Field to Fork CSA, thirteen dozen eggs per week for 19 weeks.  We are currently at week 18 and due to my hens' age and molting, production has dropped off significantly.  My mind is set to begin processing our hens to eat, if we can handle the gross out factor, as soon as the CSA is over . . . the two week countdown begins.  Production slowed so much, I have had to buy additional eggs from a friend, Lisa.

Feed costs are skyrocketing right now, so we can't afford to have chicken pets eating $39.99 in feed each week for only $28 worth of eggs.  Interestingly, I found multiple coupons for $11 off of a purchase of $40 or less for the feed store . . . making the feed $28.99 per week.  Do my chickens have a new lease on life after all?

Some of the Americana girls, a Plymouth Barred Rock and a Buff Laced Polish rooster.
