I love the way my last little toddler sticks by my side. Julian is really enjoying cooking (almost every meal) along side with me, he rakes leaves, he scoops horse poopy. He is a task master. Yesterday he wanted peanut butter and crabapple jelly instead of cheese and mustard sandwich, so he insisted he would make his own sandwich. I'm all over anyone wanting to assert their independence in healthy ways, so he went for it. Above, you see him cutting his sandwich in two after ditching the top half onto the counter.
Parenting takes such patience. Things in the kitchen take a little longer when Julian is wielding
my giant knife singing,
"Chop, chop, choppity chop.
Cut off the bottoms and cut off the tops.
What's left over, we'll put in the pot!
Chop, chop, choppity chop."
But the extra time and mess are always worth the fun of it. Have you let your little one cut the mushrooms with their own butter knife today?
